- What is functional fitness training?
- Our training combines weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardiovascular work to build broad, practical fitness. Every workout is coach-led, every movement is scalable to your ability, and the goal is to help you move well in daily life, not just get through a workout.
- Do I need to be in shape to start?
- No. Our programming is universally scalable. The needs of an experienced athlete and a complete beginner differ by degree, not by kind. Your coaches will adjust loads, movements, and intensity to match where you are right now. That is exactly what we are here for.
- What happens at a No Sweat Intro?
- You will meet a coach, tour the space, and we'll chat about your goals and any injuries or limitations. No pressure, no commitment.
- What should I bring?
- Wear comfortable workout clothes and athletic shoes with a flat, stable sole. Bring a water bottle. We provide everything else you need.
- How long is a class?
- Classes run approximately one hour. Each session includes a warm-up, a skill or strength component, the workout of the day, and a cool-down.
- How are classes structured?
- Every class is coach-led. You will never be left to figure it out on your own. The coach briefs the workout, demonstrates the movements, provides scaling options, and gives real-time feedback throughout the session.
- What does 'scaling' mean?
- Scaling means adjusting a workout to match your current fitness level while preserving the intended stimulus. If a workout calls for pull-ups and you are still building that strength, you might use a resistance band or do ring rows instead. Everyone in the class does the same workout at their own relative intensity.
- Do you offer class passes?
- We generally do not recommend class passes for those new to functional fitness training. However, if you are visiting Campbell River or have prior functional fitness experience (at least 3 months) and your schedule does not allow you to make good use of a monthly plan, let's talk. We would be happy to discuss a membership option that works best for you. Just reach out to info@discoverystrength.com.
- I'm a beginner and I'm unsure about getting a membership. Can I start with a class pass?
- We understand the hesitation, and that is exactly why we built our Discovery Foundations Program. It is a 4-week guided on-ramp designed for people new to functional fitness: you start one-on-one with a coach to learn the movements, then roll into unlimited group classes with weekly coach check-ins. It is the best way to build confidence and momentum before committing to a membership, no class pass required.
